I'm Back!

So.  I haven't posted in over a year.  There have been so many times when I've had a million thoughts running through my head and really just needed to get them out- but of course those times are when it's most inconvenient: like when I'm driving to or from work or daycare, when I'm trying to make sure dinner gets on the table while trying to figure out if "Hey mom! Look at this!" is something dangerous or just my crazy girl being crazy, or when it's quiet at night and we're snuggling in bed.  I'm not going to lie- I love this mommy stuff.

Right now, I am sitting at my dining room table, drinking a bottle of Angry Orchard (I love this stuff!) and listening to my dear husband coax our daughter into sitting on the potty before bed.  (She's fully potty trained and going through a phase in which she willfully chooses when and when not to sit on the toilet.  We can talk about that later.)  My house is an unorganized mess, and we ordered pizza for dinner because neither of us had the energy to cook and/or wanted to go out.  Tomorrow morning will bring gymnastics class and shopping for accessories for her Sofia the First Halloween costume, but right now it's quiet.

I don't have anything profound to say, or a funny/ heartwarming story to share tonight.  I just wanted to say "hi" to anyone who may read this.  It's been a crazy 3 years, but we're doing OK.  Life is good today.

Neurotic Tendencies

Usually around this time of year, I’m SOOOOO ready for the New Year to come. I’m usually burned out, and ready for a fresh start. It’s a great time to look back on the year past and reflect on everything that has happened, and all of the lessons learned.

That being said… I HATE HATE HATE and LOATHE the “year in review” issues of pretty much everything. It seems like everywhere you look, some magazine or blog or website or TV show is doing a year in review item. I’m sorry, but I was there. I lived through it. It’s old news and boring to me now. What’s the point in re-hashing it? Is there no new news at the end of every year?

Maybe I should add- I’m one of those people who will only read a book or watch a movie one time (with a few exceptions, of course). I don’t buy CDs because I get sick of the songs on it so fast that it’s just not worth the money to me. I rarely watch re-runs on TV (the Office and Friends are pretty much the only exceptions to that). I’ve always been this way- even with my appearance. I get sick of my hair and clothes ALL THE TIME.

Am I the only one who feels this way? (Does it seem like I’m always asking for reassurance? Is this some hidden insecurity? Should I see a shrink? Am I crazy?!)

Let's see if I can keep this up

I've never been good at keeping a journal. I've always had big dreams of becoming the next Anne Frank (minus the scary Nazi stuff.) Since I was a little girl, I've hoped that someday someone would find my old journals and publish them, and I'd always be remembered with a slight air of mystery. I must have started 20+ journals with this thought in mind, but then I'd end up forgetting about them and packing them away, never to be seen again. Some of them I actually destroyed, embarrassed by the amount of times I had written "I Love _____". If one of my siblings had found that juicy piece of information, I'm sure my LIFE WOULD BE OVER! I could NEVER SHOW MY FACE AGAIN! I am older and wiser now... and I spend about 50% (ok 70%) of my day on the internet anyway, so I thought I'd give blogging a shot.

Maybe I should introduce myself. My name is Jill. I've been married to Paul since Feb of 2006. We have a dog named Charlie and a cat named Maggie. They're spoiled rotten. We don't have any children yet. We've been TTC since June 2007 with no luck so far. When we started trying, we decided that we wouldn't go in the direction of IUI or IVF, and that, if we couldn't become parents the "traditional" way, we'd adopt. The closer we get to that reality, the harder it is to fathom. More on that later. Paul and I bought his brother's house last year, and we're doing minor improvements here and there when we can afford it. My goal is to get it to look as different as possible from when his brother lived there, because sometimes I still feel like I'm living in someone else's house.

I have a very big family. We're not the Duggars or anything, but we're a decent bunch. I am the oldest of 6( Johnny, Connie, Emily, Ben (17) and Megan(16)), and I have a foster brother,Derek, who is 8 months younger than me. Connie is married to Andrew and they have a BEAUTIFUL set of twin girls, who are my life. Derek is married to Mandi, and they have a son and are expecting a little girl. You'll hear plenty about them in the future.

In this blog, I'm planning to talk a little bit about everything. You'll hear a little bit about my family, a little bit about TTC, and a little bit about the day to day life of being a "sorta" newlywed and all the stuff that comes along with it. Let's see if I can keep it up........
