prayers needed

Well, I guess God does work in mysterious ways. I was in the middle of writing a post about my 1 person pity party when my boss came to me with a story that really made me put myself in check….

Her neighbor told her over the weekend that she is 4 months pregnant. However, there is a complication. The baby has too many chromosomes and will most likely be severely handicapped. They have to make the hardest decision that no parent should have to make- to carry the baby to term, or to abort. They also have 2 younger children ages 2 and 3. Please keep this family in your prayers. I cannot imagine being in their position.

Just terrible. My thoughts go out to that poor family.

Being AMA (advanced maternal age), chromosomal defects was a very large risk for us. This is why we chose to have a CVS at a mere 11 weeks. If something was very wrong, it would be "easier" for us to end the pregnancy at this point than at 20 weeks or more. Ugh.

They are in my prayers; I cannot imagine having that decision to make.

I also thought you may benefit from this post from my friend's blog.

I hope they will be at peace with whatever they decide...

I've recently had many "reminder" moments that have put things back in perspective for me as well...it's only human to get caught up in our own lives, but I guess we all need those reminders from time to time to see the big picture.

My heart goes out to them. When DH and I found out we were both carriers of CF (cystic fibrosis) we had to fight with the insurance company to cover IVF. They insisted we go through 3 rounds of IUI's first, and if we conceived a child with CF, we could just abort it. Because that's the kind of insensitive response you get from insurance companies. Oh, okay, abortion...gee, what an easy decision! Thanks HMO! I shouldn't complain; I'm lucky we have any infertility benefits. So many couples don't. But it burns me up that they can be so flippant about issues like abortion! That couple has to make the hardest decision of their life. I hope they do what's right for them and don't let anyone else tell them what they should or should not do.
